Proclaiming Dictators and Juntas or Testing Boolean Formulae

چکیده
We consider the problem of determining whether a given function belongs to a certain class of Boolean functions or whether it is far from the class. More precisely, given query access to the function and given a distance parameter , we would like to decide whether or whether it differs from every on more than an -fraction of the domain elements. The classes of functions we consider are singleton (“dictatorship”) functions, monomials, and monotone DNF functions with a bounded number of terms. In all cases we provide algorithms whose query complexity is independent of (the number of function variables), and polynomial in the other relevant parameters.

Quantum Algorithms for Learning and Testing Juntas
In this article we develop quantum algorithms for learning and testing juntas, i.e. Boolean functions which depend only on an unknown set of k out of n input variables. Our aim is to develop efficient algorithms: • whose sample complexity has no dependence on n, the dimension of the domain the Boolean functions are defined over; • with no access to any classical or quantum membership (“black-bo...
متن کاملLow degree almost Boolean functions are sparse juntas
Nisan and Szegedy showed that low degree Boolean functions are juntas. Kindler and Safra showed that low degree functions which are almost Boolean are close to juntas. Their result holds with respect to μp for every constant p. When p is allowed to be very small, new phenomena emerge. For example, the function y1 + · · · + yε/p (where yi ∈ {0, 1}) is close to Boolean but not close to a junta. W...
متن کاملLearning symmetric k-juntas in time n
We give an algorithm for learning symmetric k-juntas (boolean functions of n boolean variables which depend only on an unknown set of k of these variables) in the PAC model under the uniform distribution, which runs in time n log . Our bound is obtained by proving the following result: Every symmetric boolean function on k variables, except for the parity and the constant functions, has a non-z...
متن کاملLecture Notes on Testing by Implicit Sampling
Building on the junta tester, we present a general methodology for constructing testers for properties of Boolean functions (of the form f : {0, 1} → {0, 1}) that can be approximated by small juntas. This methodology yields testers of low query complexity for many natural properties, which contain functions that depend on relatively few relevant variables; specifically, the query complexity is ...
متن کامل2 Learning Monotone Boolean Functions
Last time we finished the discussion about KM algorithm and its application. We also covered sparse Fourier representations and k-juntas of parities. In the end we started to talk about learning monotone Boolean functions and influence of such functions. Today We will first finish discussion about learning monotone Boolean functions. Then we will also talk about learning k-juntas of halfspaces....
